First, a slight apology to Colleen...it was her idea and I have had it on the brain ever since she mentioned it in last Friday’s comments. Please forgive me Colleen, I couldn’t resist giving this a try :)
I cast on 60 stitches and did about 2” of K2P2 ribbing before starting the pattern. I had to make myself put this down last night as my head was yelling at me to get to the heel flap :) I haven’t figured out yet whether to carry the pattern down on to the foot. I think it would look really cool but I’m worried that its heavily textured nature would be uncomfortable for the wearer if this were enclosed in a snug shoe or sneaker. Maybe maintain the rib structure but keep to stockinette otherwise? I guess I’ll know when I get there :)
This treatment would also make wonderful fingerless gloves - and the socks and gloves would make a fantastic set! Ack! I’m getting carried away and I haven’t even finished the first sock yet - I’d better settle down before Myria arranges for an intervention :)
We’ve been out walking for the last two mornings but today (and every day until Sunday, I hear) it’s pouring down rain. So I guess that means we get out the exercise bike and bruise out bums in the living room. Maybe I’ll put down the yoga mat and see what creaks when I attempt that partial lotus!
Tomorrow night - Knitting Chatters! Hope to see you there :)
No trackbacks yet.
Hmph! Well, I suppose it’s my own fault for having too much on the needles right now!
You’re doing 5 repeats, right? My thought was to center one repeat down the front of the leg, then carry just that one repeat down the front of the foot. That would leave the majority of the foot plain, especially the sides (which is where my shoes tend to pinch). And some cool heel flap things could be done by incorporating the two pattern repeats that would be at the back.
It’s okay that you got the drop on me - I’ll be doing MY designing in fingering weight.
Colleen :) I like your idea of centering the design down the front of the foot and I’ll let you work that one out. I think I’ll do the foot plain and probably do the heel in heel stitch or eye-of-partridge. It occurred to me that an afterthought heel would allow uninterrupted work on the stitch pattern, but I’m not up for that just yet :)
Fingering weight - definitely! But I have a lot of the sport weight in the stash and in solid colors - so it seemed like a good option for the prototype :)
Well Colleen you got to me too. On the needles is a Japanese feathers cap in blue raspberry sherbert coloured acrylic, fingering weight. I am doing chemo caps. The cap has a ribbed band, and I put a row of eyelets in the ribbing. Could run a ribbon through and it would have a very 20s look. See what you started!
amaryllis
well, at least you and the previous commenters are *doing* something- i am just dithering about wishing the ‘finishing elves’ would take over this aran afghan- i do so loathe and detest feeling in a slump!!
i think you are right about lion brand discontinuing that sportweight wool-ease- i always found it durable and very very useful- i have some stashed away, and i’ll be sorry when it is all used up-
despite goldie’s demon-eyes, he still has that sweet kitty face-
stay happy-
Amaryllis - That sounds just beautiful - and the ribon will just make it! What a lovely idea for a chemo cap :)
Barb - Slumpies suck - no question about it. Would it work to have a small, simple project in-additional-to the afghan? You know, just to give you a little fun and relief from unrelieved stretchs of cream colored wool :) Something for you maybe?
