What a windfall of Ideas!

You folks are wonderful!  I had thought about a collar but the notion of a bolero or a shrug had never even entered my tiny little mind.  What a terrific idea :)  Barb mentioned the Shimmer from Knitty which is certainly a possible.  But, also from Knitty, are the A Capella (done in a lighter weight yarn) and the Variation on a FrillOtis might also be a possibility!

Puttering around this morning, I also ran into the No Struggle Shrug-all which is really cute and seriously simple.  Stella is also very cute, but if I decide on that, I would abbreviate the length some.

Such great ideas and I thank each and every one of you!

I was so tired when we got home yesterday, I was barely capable of reading the comments let alone responding to them and I fell asleep in my chair last night with my book still in my hands (and Jade in my lap).

I’ll leave you with a recommendation of my own: ineffectual repayment for your great suggestions, but…

The Beekeeper's Apprentice    The Moor

Laurie R. King has crafted a series of novels which posits a partner and, later, a wife for the classic detective Sherlock Holmes.  She is strong and brilliant.  It is the meeting of like minds (very like minds) upon which the relationship is based.  King draws the characters wonderfully and with great affection.  Her representation of the world of the early 1900s and her respect for Doyle’s creation is evident in every page.  This is a wonderful series - great fun and very satisfying.  I bought the two books pictured above (the images are of the hardcover books; they are available in paperback) because I got tired of waiting for the library to find them for me.  The Beekeeper’s Apprentice is the first of the series.  Go pick it up for your weekend read - you’ll thoroughly enjoy it!

We’re off this afternoon to have lunch with a friend and to see the movie Constantine.  I’ll let you know about that next week :)

See you Monday!

  1. doesn’t the character mary russell grow on you? laurie king has a stand alone novel (well she has several) ‘folly’ that is excellent too- and her kate martinelli series of mysteries is good as well- umm, i think i am a definite laurie king fan!

there are a multitude of pretty cover-ups aren’t there- while you make one of those, i am here finding out that eyelash yarns are an invention of the devil- sheesh, they shed worse than the cats! the daughters here suddenly had to have fouffy scarves- now i am just waiting for them to take a sudden interest in angora-

you are having a busy week there- enjoy it and stay happy-

  2. O yes! Mary Russell is one of my favorite characters. She is able to knit but doesn’t do so very often.
    Knitting and books, lovely combination.

  3. Barb - I guess I’m kind of hoping to avoid “flouffy” yarns for this black dress pick-me-up, but I haven’t made any hard decisions yet.  Fact is I think they can look very nice - I just find them difficult to work with.

  4. Aarlene - You know, at first I wasn’t so sure - she’s such a cool little thing - but she grew on me with each book I read :)

  5. I’ll have to check those books out. I love a good mystery. I have wanted to make that “Variation on a Frill” since I saw the patten. I love the way the beads are worked into the pattern. Now…you have me thinking. It is great to hear others suggestions. Hope you enjoyed the movie.

  6. Maureen - The books are great; I think you will enjoy them immensely.  Our own barb-in-east-texas recommended them to me and I have been very glad she did!

See Monday’s post for the movie low-down.
