We’re off up to Maine today for the blessings of the holy hairdresser :) I’m trying to decide whether to continue letting my mop grow out and Myria is trying to figure out if 6 inches or so off her waist-length hair mightn’t give it a little more bounce. Such crucial decisions, eh? Heheh….
I started this kid-sized sock last night:

Bright feet
Then I got bored with it and started this kid-sized hat:

Purple! You mean there are other colors?!?
I think I want to work some other color(s) into this one somewhere. Then, after farting with every circular knitting method known to humanity to get comfortable with this thing, I gave it up too - not forever, just for last night. I was getting in trouble with everything I picked up - a sure sign that I should be doing something else for a while :)
I did finish the peppermint sock, evening-before-last, with about 6” of yarn to spare. No big deal, since I was working from the toes-up, but it pleased me not to be wasting yarn.

Jade gives me the once over :)
I’ll probably get the second sock under way before long. I’d like to have these for my trip and given how long it seems to take me to make a standard sock, I should probably get cracking! Not to mention the gorgeous blue merino sock yarn I’ve got waiting in the wings. Oooh, yummy!
No trackbacks yet.
a haircut should be on my ‘to do ‘list also- i’m getting to that stage of resembling some of the dogs at westminster (although without the pedigree!)-
isn’t it annoying when no matter what you pick up to work on, it just doesn’t feel right? i think that’s why i have approximately a gazillion projects in various states of incompletion-
it’s good to see that you have jade’s catly seal of approval for the peppermint sock- it does look nice and the fit looks comfy-
stay happy-
What a great color on those socks!
SIX INCHES!!!! ooooooh i love not wasting yarn! that was my main impetus for starting toe-up socks. Good luck with the second one!
Love those peppermint socks…what a great color.Hope the haircutting gods were good to you.
Barb - Well, I now look less like an old English sheepdog and more like a well groomed shnauzer :)
The sock is comfy, but it could have been just a tad smaller. It’ll do :)
Susan - Isn’t it cool? I just couldn’t resist :)
Laura - That was my key motivation for the toes up method too. Get the foot out of the way and go up the leg as far as the yarn holds out. The only guesswork is how much to leave for the bind-off row.
Maureen - Thanks! The haircutting gods were very nice to me, thank goodness!
I love it when there’s only inches to spare when at the end of a project. ‘Waste yarn not’ is also my motto. I used to lose sleep mulling over what to do with the leftovers. :) Great looking sock, there!
Siow Chin - Thank you :) It’s too much to hope for that there will never be leftovers, but this once it worked out!
The peppermint sock looks great :) I don’t know if chopping 6” off such long hair will give it a huge amount of bounce, but it always feels good to have a nicely sliced mop :)
Pam - YEs indeed - and we are both possessed of very nicely sliced mops today :)
