Waterspun Goodness!

Just a brief note today, I’m afraid.  I’ve got a somewhat hectic day coming up.

I’ve been having problems with Typepad sites.  Well, they don’t cause bad things to happen, I didn’t mean that - but they take forever to come up.  Even then, the odds are about 50/50 that I’ll be able to view comments and/or pictures.  Waiting for a Typepad blog to show makes me feel like I’m on dial-up again :) Do any of you have similar experiences?  I keep wondering if there’s something amiss on my system.  There are several blogs that I follow and dearly love that are on Typepad and I’ll continue to visit them, but it’s gotten to the point where I’m extremely reluctant to pick up another one simply because Typepad seems to be so slow.  Is there anything I can do about this?

Awwww

I lucked into some Classic Elite Waterspun yesterday - a beautiful variegated yarn that goes from coffee-with-cream to cream to a dusty violet.  I hadn’t seen this yarn before and fell in love with the look and feel of it.  I picked up five hanks thinking this would make a beautiful hat/scarf/mittens set for winter.

Classic Elite Waterspun Merino - yummy, eh?

Waterspun sumptuousness!

But last night, I ran all over the web looking for a hat pattern and didn’t see anything that tripped my trigger.  I don’t want a watch cap type thing, I’d like something a bit more funky than that.  Nothing totally ridiculous, but something fun and a bit different.  Do you have any suggestions?  Anything you’ve seen or made that seemed cool and fun to you and that won’t give the impression of a guard on a catwalk with a rifle slung over his shoulder?  Heh… :)

Hope you all have a terrific weekend!

Addendum

Enlightenment is like the moon reflected on the water. The moon does not get wet, nor is the water broken. Although its light is wide and great, the moon is reflected even in a puddle an inch wide. The whole moon and the entire sky are reflected in dewdrops on the grass, or even in one drop of water.

  1. I bitched AGAIN to Typepad and quoted your post!  I have had an open “help ticket” for several weeks about this problem.  The pop ups take forever, etc.  We’ll see what they say. Hope it doesn’t keep you from visiting!  LOVE THE SHEEP.

  2. I’ve noticed similar slowness on Typepad.  Glad it’s not just me!

  3. Margene and Caren - I hope neither of you feel that I was complaining about your blogs.  Please be assured that I enjoy both of them and will continue to read them.  You’re both on my “permanent” list.  On the other hand, I’m a bit relieved to know that it’s not just me or my system!

  4. As for a hat pattern, what about a Bucket Hat?  The Bottom’s Up version is pretty easy to knit, and you can add embellishments if you like.

  5. PS...I just looked up the fiber content of that yarn, it’s not superwash, is it?  I think that colorway would look gorgeous as a felted hat for winter!

  6. Natalie beat me to it ... I was going to suggest a bucket hat or a felted hat.  FiberTrends has some good felted hat patterns with a choice of brim.  Otherwise, I’d suggest you do what I’m doing ... I knit a piece long enough to go around my head and seamed it together.  Picked up stitches along one edge and (on doublepoints) decreased stitches to close in the top.  Now you have a choice to add a brim or not.  I’m still working out how to do that.  The hat I made last winter based on the multidirectional scarf didn’t have a brim because it was deep enough to not need one.  Current scarf from leftovers will have a brim ... provided I can make one work.

  7. Natalie - The Bucket hat might be a possibility and no, this isn’t superwash yarn - I imagine it would felt wonderfully.

Charlotte - I’m familiar with the multi-directional scarf.  Care to share your hat adaptation?  Sounds very intriguing!

  8. I thought that the appeal of using Classic Elite Waterspun is that the material is already felted.  I was going to suggest using it for a Bottom Up Bucket hat because I have four (or is it five?) skeins of Waterspun that will be made into a bucket hat for the late autumn/winter months.

  9. Iko - That’s right, the yarn itself is lightly fulled - that was one of the appealing things about it to me beam.gif width=15 height=15 I don’t really think I want to do something felted.  I don’t have a washer and don’t fancy spending an afternoon whacking the crap out of something on the edge of the bathtub!
