The Shawl Chronicles

Okay, here’s the shawl - so far :)

Shawl1

Shawl sprawl

I put half the stitches on another needle to take the pictures but even then I couldn’t stretch it out to its full width.  I suspect that it’s at least as wide as the bed is long.

Shawl2

Lengthwise

I worked on this at least 6 hours yesterday but it doesn’t seem as though I have all that much to show for it.  I know better than that though because I went through a ball of yarn and started another.

Of course, now I’m wondering where I’m going to find the room to block the darned thing!

Have a great weekend!

  1. Dang - finally, I’m the first to comment! hehehe

The shawl is really looking great. Such a lovely color. :) I’m tempted to order some of Knitpicks new laceweight to make something shawlish for myself, but heck - I’ve too many projects lined up to even THINK of something new.

I’ll live vicariously through you for the time being. :)

  2. Bron - Heheh…You’ve got and made some lovely shawls though :)  I was really lucky finding that color.

KnitPicks is mightily tempting me too :)  I keep going back to their catalog and drooling over the beautiful colors.  I was wondering about the laceweight and the silk!

  3. Gorgeous shawl!!!

I’ve been on a shawl (and lace) kick myself recently.  I’ll have to keep this pattern in mind for a future project.

  4. that is beautiful!! every time i see that periwinkle i have to work hard to keep from drooling on the keyboard- ‘shawl envy’ isn’t a pretty sight!

blocking that may end up involving the moving of furniture and locking up cats for a day or so-

    stay happy-

  5. Anne - Thank you - it’s my first real lace and I’m mostly pleased with my waning trepidation about knitting the stuff :)  This wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be!

  6. Barb - You’re right about the furniture and locking up the cats :)  They’ll be furious, but it’ll be worth it!

  9. Robbyn,
That color is really stunning and the pattern too. you are really moving along. About blocking it…. I bought a huge piece of insulation type stuff at Home Depot. It was around $8.00 for the sheet. It is perfect for a large shawl and the pins poke through the insulation.

  10. Maureen - Thanks for that idea - I’ll have to check that out.  Could be very useful :)  Especially since I could turn it to the wall and keep the cats off it that way!

  12. Hi Ana - Yes, the shawl is for me :)  The pattern is free and can be found here.  It’s a .pdf file so you’ll need Acrobat Reader to read it.  It’s really very simply and makes a beautiful shawl - as you can see :)

  15. Wow, your shawl is looking fantastic.  I’ve used my 7’ triloom for blocking in the past.
