...ot not so :)
Things slid yesterday for a couple of reasons. I’ve had a pretty busy week and I haven’t been doing much knitting. For one thing, I’m still reeling about the Dulaan news and don’t know what to do with the half finished mittens I’ve been working on, nor what to go on to next.
Well, that’s not exactly true. I’ve been going back again and again to look at Élann’s Moonlight Sonata shawl. Despite the fact that I have shawls already, I evidently want this one too. I will probably enlarge it a bit but I really like the stitch pattern and want to work it up myself. I know, I know; I just finished a shawl - in fact I’ve finished two this year already. What can I tell you? Some people make socks. For now, it seems, I’m making shawls :)
I put an order in to Knitpicks for Bare fingering weight yarn to dye for the shawl - also a couple more points for my Options circulars :) I wanted to sample their Cotlin yarn so there was some of that too in the Moroccan Red color and finally, taking advantage of their summer book sale, I also ordered Sensational Knitted Socks by Charlene Schurch. I have been craving this book since I got the chance to look at it a few weeks ago - I can hardly wait!
Chatters is definitely on tonight, at 8:00 PM, EST, as usual. I know we’re in the thick of vacation time, but if you happen to be around, why not drop in?
Hope everyone is having a pleasant and relaxing weekend!
No trackbacks yet.
What Dulaan news?
Here are a couple of places that could use the mittens you are knittin’:

and F.I.R.E. will probably still accept whatever you send them… it just won’t be promoted by Ryan. :(
Hope to log and Chat tonight!
I started the Moonlight Sonata Shawl about a week ago. I’m also making it bigger. I followed directions for the cast on, but I kept knitting the strip until I had enough ridges for 65 st on each side instead of the 41 n the directions. So far, t’s working out perfectly! I’m using Elann’s Peruvian Collection Baby Cashmere.
i’m kinda reeling with the dulaan news too- however, i’ve always done charity knitting and crocheting so i’ll just go back to some of the ones i’ve had a special affection for earlier- i really like making things for both the children and elders of the ‘pine ridge reservation’ and there are several sites you can go to for research on that i you are interested- there’s not much real need for pretty woolies around here since we seem to spend most of the year in sweat-driven angst!
i love the ‘moonlight sonata’ shawl and hooray for you for cranking out the dyepots to make it-
i will do my best to join in the chatting tonight-
stay happy-
Ev - You can read about it here at Mossy Cottage. That’s a direct link to the post.
Kathleen - Thanks for the charity suggestions - having discovered the delight and joy of knitting for others, it’s not something I want to give up! But I also don’t want to feel like I’m deserting folks that still need help so yes, checking with F.I.R.E. would also probably be a good idea :)
Elizabeth - Yippee! Someone else is making it too! Thanks so much for your notes on your changes and progress. It’s good to know that it can be successfully mucked-about-with :) I tell you, if the postman doesn’t deliver the goods soon, I’m going to start waiting by the back stairs and mugging the poor guy whenever he goes by!
Barb - You’re right, of course - there are a lot of people out there who could use a few warm things.
What about you making the Moonlight Sonata (my college audition piece - traumatic memory - LOL!) to go with your sinful skirt?
First, you can never have too many shawls. You just can’t. If you insist that you can, you will shatter my world and I will never be able to put it back together. ;-)
Finally, I think you’ll love SKS. I sure do love my copy. I keep finding more patterns that I want to do and I love the range of patterns in it. If I want something easy peasy it’s in there. If I want something to tickle my brain, it’s in there. It’s just a delightful book. I also want to get the More Sensational Knitted Socks though.
Opal - I firmly believe that if shawls are your thing (as they are clearly yours and apparently mine too!) then a wide and useful selection is not only useful, but absolutely essential :)
I know I’m going to love the book - I looked through it carefully in the bookstore when I spotted it. I just couldn’t justify the expense until I saw Knitpicks 40% off summer book sale. I expect I’m also going to want the More volume as well - but that one can wait a bit!
