The Purls on the Sock go ‘Round and ‘Round…

The sock is nearly done, though I haven’t made as much progress on it as I would have liked.

Overall, I’m quite happy with it though I think the foot is a bit long.  That’s not a serious issue as I don’t like my toes crowded :)  I did find a bit of a burble as I was checking things last night, though…

Close up of purl stitches

Oooops!

I found these two purl stitches right in the middle of the sole.  In the interest of honesty, I show them to you.  Sigh - zigged when I shoulda zagged :)  I’m not going to go back and fix them, however, since I’ll be walking on them and nobody but me (and you good folks - and you won’t tell, right?) will ever see them.

I finished the second baby hat last night and that too, took longer than I had imagined.  That’s all my own doing though, as I decided to incorporate one of my favorite frivolities - bobbles :)  I did one in every K2tog when I got to the decreases so they sort of spiral up the cap.  I think it’s kinda cute, but the bobbles were really tough on my hands (this one was done on one circular) so I’ll probably re-think the method if I decide to do it again.

Now I have to find somewhere to store this stuff as I get it finished - a bag in the closet or something like that.  I’m thinking that I should try to make one little thing for the bag every time I complete something for myself.

Oh, and a question, if you don’t mind :)  Both these little chapeaux come to a bit of a point at the top making them resemble the onion domes of the Kremlin somewhat.  While I think that’s kinda cute (and the hats are certainly serviceable as is), it isn’t the nice, spherical shaped dome one usually sees on a watch-type cap.  Anything I can do about that?  Will it smooth out with wear?

I’m going to be out running around today, so I don’t know how much knitting will get done.  I guess we’ll find out in tomorrow’s post :)

Have a good one, friends!

  1. the finished sock does look like a peppermint candy and should make for a most ‘cheerful wearing’-

i like the little ‘onion domes’ but if you want to reduce the point, you could try decreasing at a more acute angle by doing more decreases per row and adding plain rows between those until the hat is an adequate length- those bobbles are adorable and the wearer will look so cute- aww, you know i’m a sucker for babies and baby items in any way, shape, or form though-

i’ve put one of the fancy gift bags right by my bed so i can work on the dulaan things every night and then keep finished items (ha, i have good plans- we’ll see how i carry through) in that same bag-

    stay happy-

  3. Those bobbles are a great idea!  So cute.  I would second Barb’s advice.  My favorite baby hat pattern has you decrease at a normal rate with plain rows in between, then when there are six or eight rows left, you k2tog all the way around every other row.  (Forgive the guessing, I’m at work and my patterns are at home.)  When you have 6 or 8 stitches left on the needles, you break the yarn and run it through those 6 or 8 stitches and tie it off.  I’ll check when I get home, because I feel like I’m not making sense. :)

  4. Barb - The gift bag sounds like a great idea only I’ve got all the Christmas stuff under the bed - LOL!  It’ll have to go in the closet - but that should work fine :)

Pam - You’re a rat fink!  A talented and endlessly creative rat fink, but a rat fink none the less!  devilish.gif width=15 height=15 Heheh…

Laura - That sound good, I’ll give that a try next time - and it did so make sense!
