Tarot - Part II

I’m writing this late because I’m probably not going to be posting tomorrow.  I’m collecting my father at an ungodly hour of the morning to take him to the airport where he will depart for what he insists is going to be his last cruise.  Ha!  Not if I have anything to say about it.  He enjoys these things too much to give them up just because he’s retired.  Maybe limit himself to one every year or so, but give them up?  Well, I don’t think he should.

And then I’m going to come home and go back to bed.  Because you know that I’m not going to be able to sleep tonight knowing that !@#$%^&* alarm clock is set for 5:15 AM,

I did find a tarot deck liked, in fact one that I really, really like.

Gilded Tarot

The Gilded Tarot

It’s a Rider-Waite based deck which is where I want to start and it’s utterly breath-taking.  I had seen it yesterday when I was browsing around but didn’t really hope to be able to find it this close to home.  More than its being beautiful though, it feels right - I tend to go with the intuition where these kinds of things are concerned.  There were other decks that were lovely, but none of them felt as good as this one did.  Yes, Amazon has it, but I didn’t want to wait.  Perhaps pursuing the tarot will help me to acquire some discipline and patience - ya think?

I hope you all have a perfectly splendid and spectacular weekend.  I think there will be a couple of FOs on Monday :)

  1. What “feels” right when it comes to Tarot, “is” right, so you chose correctly. :) That’s a beautiful deck & I’ve been sorely tempted to buy it. I have over 30 decks right now & half of them I use for very specific readings or times. ie. my Halloween Tarot for, you guessed it, Halloween, Tarot of the Old Path for spiritual readings, The Herbal Tarot for health & wellness, etc., etc. I’ll be interested to hear your impressions as you explore!

I would suggest getting a firm grasp of the “basic” Tarot before branching out to something like the Osho Zen. I have that deck too & it has an entirely different approach to the cards.

And don’t get me started on the change of “Death” to “Transformation” & such. Grrrrr!

    Have a great weekend!

  2. By the way - although it’s not politically correct to say so these days, I tend to use the cards more for divination than introspection. They work perfectly well for both. :::grin:::

  3. perhaps your dad will now do like some celebrities do and begin a series of ‘farewell’ cruises- those can be annual events-

i’m glad you treated yourself to something you wanted- the deck looks interesting-

now back to the snapping jaws of a sock- it hasn’t bitten me yet, but we haven’t yet reached a state of detente either-

    stay happy-

  4. Bron - I can’t think why divination would be un-PC.  Why shouldn’t it work for that as well as for introspection?  It’s a poor tool that can only do one thing.

I’m not surprised that you have a collection - if this goes anywhere for me, I expect to accumulate a few decks myself :)

Firm grasp of the basics - yes m’am :) That’s what I’m planning!

  5. Barb - You just whack that snapping sock firmly on the snout :) Don’t let it boss you around - you’re the knitter here!

  6. I have many tarot decks myself and I learned many years ago on the Rider-Waite.  I am currently working with Barbara Walker’s Deck. which I quite like - though it is different from my other decks.  I bought it because I thought a tarot deck by a knitter would be something I *needed* to have.

  7. Colette - I have seen that one listed though I haven’t been able to have a look at it just yet.  A tarot by a knitter?  Sounds like an idea :)
