Ta-dah!

Blanket

This was completed by 8:30 last night :)

This is Chris Simon’s Flowerburst Square and a nicely designed piece it is.

Blanket

Materials:  Red Heart acrylic in various pinks and purples, cream and black.
Hook:  Size I/9 (5.5 mm)
Finished size (square):  12” x 12”
Finished size (blanket):  60” x 72”

I have no idea about actual amounts because I was using left-overs, for the most part, and trying to use up colors.  I worked with what I had available and didn’t measure anything beforehand.  I will admit, however, to being absolutely abysmal in judging how much yarn I’m going to need - especially for crochet so, in the end, I did have to purchase more black yarn in order to finish the squares’ borders.  It goes without saying that I bought twice as much as I ended up needing :)

Blanket

Maybe I should make another blanket?

Happy Monday!

  1. That is just lovely, Robbyn!

Someone I know does child sized afghans.  She uses at least 2 supersaver skeins in black for each one, or perhaps she said 3?  Anyway, it is a lot… and you have a lovely larger piece there… so I’m sure you used a much bigger bunch!

  2. Kathleen - Thanks!  When I finally got to spread it out last night and see the whole thing I was very pleased.  And Myria just stared at it with her mouth open :)

I can make a guess about the black because I had two skeins (the Supersaver - 7 oz) to start with.  I bought four more and used two of those.  So about 28 oz of the black.

Oh, and about two skeins of the cream - and the leftovers measured in inches.  I barely made it!

The rest is anybody’s guess :)

  5. Lisa - Thanks!  Obviously I like the colors and have used them before because they were all left-overs.  But if I were going to make another one, I think blues would definitely get the nod this time.

I love pinks, but i think I’ve had enough of them for a while :)

  6. Marie - The thing that amazed me most was that once I figured out how I wanted to proceed, it only took a couple of weeks to do.  I know crocheting is fast, but I thought this would take a lot lomnger to make and put together than that!

Thanks for the nice thoughts :)

  10. Nat - Thanks!  The designer calls this an intermediate pattern, but really, i think it’s easy :)

so okay, now i’m curious!  What’s happened to your knitting table?

  12. Vicki - It took exactly two weeks and, honestly, I was surprised it went so quickly!  It’s all the excellence of Chris Simon’s design which flowed and filled out perfectly.  I don’t think I’ve ever worked with a better designed square.

  13. Gorgeous! The black really pulls it all together. I just love it. :)

  14. Opal - Thanks :) You like it even though it’s pink?  Heheh… It was a fun, fairly fast project and I’m very pleased at how things came together.

But I have to stop relying on black as the unifying color.  It’s easy and has the added benefit of amking things look like stained glass - but it isn’t the only thing that could be used.  Definitely something i have to think about :)
