Socks and Hats and Sunny days…

As I live and breathe - an actual sunny day!  They’re getting so rare, I scarcely recognize them when we do have them!

You all have heard me talk about the mohair blanket I’ve been wanting to make?  Funny thing - I found the yarn last Saturday when Bron and I were gallivanting around but I still didn’t quite know what I was going to do with it.  Then, Monday I found the Sampler M Knitalong which will share many lace stitch patterns.  They come from a white, cotton sampler knitted by a young, probably Dutch girl around the turn of the last century.  This is perfect!  Talk about serendipitous!  I won’t be making the sampler but I will be using these lace patterns to make panels (or pieces - I haven’t quite decided yet) for my blanket.  I can hardly wait to start :)
You’ve heard the old adage about how when the student is ready, the teacher will appear?  Perhaps it’s like that - when the yarn is ready the pattern will appear!!  Heheh…

Cloud hat is finished:

The pattern is here and, just as dear Ryan promises, it is easy, attractive and thick!  Every time I pick it up my fingers think they’ve accidentally gotten hold of two hats!  There will definitely be more of these - maybe even one for myself :)

I’m a little embarrassed to report that Picovoli has been frogged.  What is it with sweaters?  I didn’t like the way the yarn was working out and I got to the point where working on it was actually repellent to me.  If it had been for someone else, I suppose I would have soldiered through but for me?  Nope, not going to do work I don’t enjoy.  See Colleen?  That’s one way to deal with the endless round-and-round of stockinette :)

Wednesday evening, the lacey sock finally crystallized in what passes for my brain and I got started.

The yarn is the fingering weight merino I dyed with the Easter egg colors and which I have dubbed (the color, that is) Tea Rose.  It’s very nice to work with - even on size 1 (US) DPNs.  I’m very happy with the look so far but am trying to figure out what to do when I get to the foot.  The bobble flowers and the embossed leaves won’t feel so good enclosed in a shoe, I’m thinking, but I would rather not leave the top of the foot plain.  So my brain is ticking over possibilities for that.  I also got entangled in the one-more-row trap and wound up knitting until three in the morning!  It was worth it though :)

Knitting Chatters was great fun last night, as always and the time change seemed to work out well for everybody.

Now I’m going to get dressed, have some breakfast, and go out and enjoy this gorgeous day.  Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Frogged, eh? Someday - I swear - You’ll make a garment for yourself that you’ll like & wear. Although my hair might be considerably more gray before than happens. ;)

I’m so glad you found the perfect lace patterns for that mohair - it’s going to be gorgeous!

  3. Bron - Yes, yes, I’m hanging my head already :) Someday, I’ll learn to complete things before I let my enthusiasm carry me away in the blog!

Robbyn, honey, I’m the same way.  That’s how I could call you on it so easily. Ever wonder what happens to the many items on my blog that just disappear one day?

  6. Colleen - I guess I always thought everyone had some of those things, gathering dust in a corner somewhere :) I just felt that since I had made a big deal about it, that I owed it to you all to come clean - keeps me honest!

  7. Oh, I love the sock pattern!  Can’t wait to see a finished pair.  Looks like a “no bore” to me.  Can’t wait to see how the afghan goes too, that sounds really pretty.
Enjoyed chatting last night.  You guys are all great - kind of like my own little knitting group on Thursdays. :o)
    Enjoy the sunshine.

  9. What the hell happens to my brain on Thursday nights???  I missed another chance at online knit talk.  Thanks for the idea about lace panels for blankets—very cool idea, gotta think about that.

  10. Rob - LOL!  Well, Chatters will be here when you remember :)

Lace panels seem like a good idea - especially for something like mohair.  The knitting will be light and fast (since I’ll probably use size 10.5 or 11 needles - this mohair is very hairy) and the designs will make a pretty blanket, I think :)

  11. Thanks for the lovely comment! Maybe the bank manager will be more amenable due to the sunshine!

  12. That is a great looking sock...As I have always said, you are the bobble queen :)
I love the cloud hat too. I made a few of them earlier in the year for my homeless shelter project. They are so warm and soft with the mohair.

  14. Maureen - Thank you :) You’re right about the bobble thing.  I know they’re supposed to be tedious and, to be honest, you can’t just whip them out at this scale - but they create a look and a feeling that nothing else does :)
