Sorry it’s been such an uneventful knitting week :( In addition to a lack of motivation (not total; I have managed to work some on the ongoing projects) my right shoulder has been screaming at me all week. Over the last year it has been cheerfully getting more and more arthritic and on occasion can sing very loudly indeed. Such is life :)
We are about to lose our cool weather as today the temperatures are supposed to go back up to something more like normal for this time of year - mid 80s to low 90s. Still, September isn’t very far off and the temperatures won’t stay that high for long.
I’m hoping to get another couple of coasters done this weekend and, for some reason, my mind has been turning to socks again. I’m thinking something with cables because I like my socks ribbed all the way up the leg and cable ares just a lot more interesting to do that plain ol’ ribbing. Clicking on the image will take you to the pattern.
There’s this from Debbi Young at Cloud Nine Knitting:
And there’s these from J. Sumner:
And then there’s this one which just looks like fun :)
Anyway, that’s about all for today, folks. I’ll mention that I started reading a series of mysteries by Simon Brett that are a lot of fun. His main character, Mrs. Pargeter is delightful and the writing is quite entertaining. There’s nothing ponderous about this series; it’s not going to solve the problems of the world or anything - it’s just fun.
See you Monday, folks - have a wonderful weekend :)
No trackbacks yet.
I’ve got that pretty comfy sock pattern in reserve, too. It looks like an interesting pattern to knit. I’ve gotta finish my second Dublin Bay first, though....
Hee Hee - I thought that Bavarian sock was a Banana sock at first glance. It looks like a yellow banana with the top peel hanging over like that! Is a name change in order?
Samina - Ha! You’re right, I hadn’t thought of it that way. I suppose if you made it in yellow - with a green toe, say?
I’ve read several of those Simon Brett books and enjoyed them all. Sometimes you just want to relax and be entertained when you read.
Charlotte - Glad to hear it! I know there are many more books than just the Mrs. Pargeter series and I’m looking forqard to reading all of them. Eventually :)
OMG! I have completely fallen in love with the Belle Lace pattern. That looks too great to be hand knitted…
Annie - It’s beautiful stitch, isn’t it? There’s a shawl pattern here:
http://www.knitlist.com/96gift/giftbellshawl.htm
that also uses this lace. I’ve made this shawl and it’s not only easy, it’s gorgeous! I highly recommend it :)
I like the “Pretty Comfy Sock”, looks like a great pattern. I have seen that pattern for the Bell Lace Shawl. It was very beautiful. What color did you make it in?
Hi Maureen - I made it in a deep pink (cerise) mohair blend.
I designed the Bavarian Sock. It’s a version of “trachtmoden” or folkwear from Austria and German. The split cuff is decorated with pewter buttons, chamois bands, suede lace or other ornaments and worn with short boots under the Dirndl. Common in Southern German, especially Bayern (Bavaria to y’all.)
It’s knitted in Regia 6, a 6 ply version of Regia sock yarn (4 ply)--DK or Sport works fine.
Hi Joanna! Thanks for mentioning the DK weight yarn. I think that would work well for me. I love the look of the socks and - even though I don’t own a pair of boots, short or otherwise - am looking forward to making and wearing them :) The decoration is especially appealing!
