I’ve been having a tired, cranky, coming-down-with-something week and haven’t gotten much done. I’m always afraid to pick up my knitting under these circumstances lest I damage things beyond tink, beyond frog pond, beyond repair. I did work a bit on the poncho on the theory that even with minimal attention, it was too simple to screw up too badly…at least once the border’s done:)
Poncho progress…
I’m hoping to get some more done on it today or over the weekend. I’m kind of also hoping some other little project will present itself. I want to do something but I can’t think what. I sat up until 1:00 AM looking through books and magazines, hoping for inspiration but, alas…
Myria has been after me for some time to share this with you. It kept slipping my mind because I made it for her long before I started blogging - or even knitting.
White, fan pattern shawl
I made this for her a few years ago from a library book of patterns taken from McCall’s magazine. As it happens, this pattern (Fan Pattern Shawl) is also available on-line. The original was intended to be crocheted with thread and a no.1 steel hook. I used worsted weight yarn and a G hook. It’s about 75” wide and about 40” deep and Myria looks absolutely lovely in it. It’s not difficult to do either; I worked on while watching old Rockford Files (I have always had a thing for James Garner - he may be a one trick pony, but it’s a good trick and nobody does it better) episodes and I don’t remember that it took very long to complete. Of course if you opt for the steel hook and thread version, I expect it would take a bit longer :)
Her Jadeness
Jade is liking the lowering autumn sun. It pours in the living room windows all day and she basks like a queen. For all I know, that’s exactly what she thinks :) The last few days she’s been a little purring machine and seems really to have settled in and decided this is home. Of course she has a propensity for waking us up (or trying to) when she decides she wants breakfast. We sometimes refer to her as our little, black wake-up call and we’ve toyed with the idea of re-naming her “Apnea”.
Hang in folks. It may not be Friday, but you can see it from here!
No trackbacks yet.
pretty shawl- i like the long fringe- and just think of the mischief all that fringe could cause!
need a project- come right on over and you can take your pick among the multitude of unfinished ones here-
james garner fan here too- have you seen the movie ‘space cowboys’? he is good in that- i always like to think he kind of plays himself in any role he takes on-
did you see the eclipse last night or was all your area just too lit up with red sox excitement for it to be visible? well, an eclipse is something that *will* predictably happen again, and the sox win was a longer time coming-
stay happy-
AHHH, Jade is just beautiful :) I really like your ‘fan’ shawl also….I’ve stayed away from shawls (no reason in particular…other than I don’t where them) but it’s getting addicting looking at everyones beautiful patterns…I think the cold germs/and cranky feelings are going through the blogs too! *sneeze*
Barb - I ran across Knitty’s “Voodoo” today and fingerless mitts are something I’ve been pondering for quite a while as my hands get so cold in the winter. So that’s a possibility.
Yes to “Space Cowboys” - at least three times so far because I love all of the main characters and the movie is just plain fun :)
No eclipse - too much ambient light at the time…
PJ - Jade is gorgeous and boy does she know it :) Snotty little thing, but we love her.
Shawls aren’t everyone’s thing. I look at the profusion of knit-alongs and sometimes wonder what on earth people are thinking!
Hope you’re feeling better soon :) I hope we’re not passing this stuff around through the blogs. Electronically communicable viruses - wouldn’t that be fun!
That cat picture is just awsome :) Those eyes!
I hate when I am in a mood like that, I really want to do something, I have the time and all but I just can’t seem to get interested in anything that’s “there”. Also for fear of messing it up, for that “those” are all projects where I have to watch out for something etc.
This shows that one always should have a dummy project around, something real easy to do, no counting or color switching or whatever, just going through the motions of doing it…
Hope it will get better soon and you can get excited by something which will give you a sharp mind to deal with any pattern you like :)
Have I mentioned that I really love that mosaic pattern you’re using? It’s pretty fabulous.
Maus - Her eyes are even more fabulous than that - she’s got a lot of blue in them and when she’s sitting in a yellowish light, the blue really shows up. Hard to photograph though :)
I’m sure the mood will pass and I’ll have my project count back up to ridiculous in no time :)
Christina - It’s right out of Walkers’s book on mosaic knitting. Aside of the interwoven aspect of it, I’ve read that it reflects the interconnectedness and interdependence of all thing - a philosophy I very much favor :) I was thrilled to find it in a form I could make use of!
Love the picture of Jade…she does look like a queen. The shawl is lovely. I like the long fringe too. Nice job with the mosaic knitting. I look forward to seeing more of the poncho.
Maureen - You’re very kind :) I’m hoping to get some good time in on the poncho very soon. I guess I’d better - if I want to have it to wear this winter! LOL!
