Dad is making progress - slowly - but we’ll take what we can get. He is venturing out more and trying to do more all the time. Mostly he is succeeding which improves his confidence and helps motivate him. He still tires very easily and he is still eating poorly. For that matter, my energy levels aren’t what they once were so, as you can probably imagine, we make an interesting pair as we stumble through the market on impulse power, creaking all the way :)
I am spending a lot of time with dad these days so not a great deal of knitting is getting done. However, the blanket is about half finished -
I have also been playing with the idea of combining entrelac with mosaic knitting.
I also have a notion for a sock/slipper that I think I will start working on fairly soon - maybe over the weekend. I sure do like the image in my head - now to see if I can squeeze it down through my arms and fingers out onto the needles and into the yarn!
I finally got some more pins yesterday and am hoping to be able to dress the shawl over the weekend. I confess I’m having some problems in writing the pattern for this but I promise it will be available eventually. I still haven’t come up with a name though.

Eh....
I met a friend for breakfast on Tuesday and we had such a lovely time, chatting, knitting (me) or crocheting (her) and just peacefully and happily sharing the day. I had a crepe that was stuffed with fresh strawberries and bananas - wonderful!
I know this is vacation time for many folks but Chatters will be available at the regular time on Saturday evening.
Drop in if you have the time and the inclination!
Have a wonderful Independence Day, those in the states. And for those in the rest of the big, wide, beautiful world - have a great weekend!
No trackbacks yet.
i’m happy to hear that captain cranky is still making progress- one of my regrets is that after i married and moved far away from my ‘point of origin’ i didn’t get to spend much, if any, real quality adult time with my parents- it’s good that you and your dad have become so much closer and i know you are a real joy to him (even if he won’t say so!!!)-
what a delightful idea- mosaic and entrelac together!! you work through it, and i will pick up entrelac again- a cap and mitts perhaps? socks??
can you believe it is almost july 4th? i am still in about mid-january in my mind, so this rapid passage of time is just horrifying-
stay happy-
Hey Barb :) - I don’t know how delightful (or even do-able!) it really is, but it seems a likely avenue to explore.
I’m sorry to say it isn’t Janbuary but July - as evidenced by the air-conditioner going full bore and the firecrackers the neighborhood youngsters have been setting off for the last two weeks!
Go and procrastinate some more :) It’s a holiday weekend after all!
So glad you Dad is getting better. The nurse in me is still fretting about the eating, I hope it improves as his energy picks up. Take care of you, yoo.
Kathy Sue - Believe me, I fret about it too. Thanks, however, for your kind thoughts :)
I am very glad to hear that your dad is doing better all the time - your image of your capers in the markets made me smile
All that knitting looks awesome - I just glance at mine on my rush out the door most days lately, (little sigh) Almost over though- I’ll be back to knitting steadily soon
hugs
Hugs Nat :) I always hope for you to have a little peaceful knitting time - glad to hear you think there’s going to be some!
Don’t let the pictures fool you :) You have no idea how many swatches I’ve been through in the last couple of days - which have led nowhere!
I think it’s great that you’re getting that time with your dad, however creaky you may be together. :)
I vote for a crochet border on the blanket, just because I think it would be easier, faster and more manageable.
Lisa - I also think crocheting the border would be faster, easier and more managable - but I justify crochet borders to myself all the time with that arguement.
A knit border would be a great deal more trouble and more awkward - but i keep thinking I should try it - at least once! I guess it will depend on how much patience I have left when I’ve finished the blanket :)
I’m glad to hear your Dad is making progress, however slow it is.
I love the idea of Mosaic Entrelac. I look forward to seeing the results of further experimentation!
Interesting fiber experiments, Robbyn. As for other stuff: Would your dad find something cold tempting in this heat? I didn’t eat well as a kid, and my mom find ways of slipping in some nutrition via “milkshakes” that had some invisible food in it—a banana, or an egg, blended into some frozen chocolate milk. Or even just some fruit salad.
Opal - The idea of mosaic entrelac seriously trips my trigger, though I’ve been so busy I haven’t had time to work on it. I think my initial idea may not be feadible, but I have a follow-up plan that I do think I can pull off :)
Someday…
Rob - He doesn’t like sweet drinks and refuses to have anything sweet for breakfast. However, the fruit salad notion is a pretty good one and possibly, if I make it up for him, he could be persuaded to have a cup or so from time to time. Thanks for suggesting it - I’m definitely going to give that a try!
