Okay, now we’re down to brass tacks here - the really important stuff! What do I want to work on during my trip and so what yarn comes with me? The practical answer is whatever I need to start, make or finish those projects I have decided to work on. The real answer is more likely to be whatever I can fit in my luggage :)
I have been looking at Aibhlinn over at Knitty for a long time and I think it’s time to do something about it :) I like the notion of a neck warmer that doesn’t have ends to keep track of and that doubles as a hood. I love the picot cast-on and the diagonal ribbing and this is what I’d like to make it our of:
I also ran into a crochet pattern a couple of days ago that sparked a thought (nah - it didn’t hurt!). Take a look at this Climbing Shells Baby Blanket. I am, as it happens, making this blanket, but the offset shells and columns keeping appearing in my head as a kimono-type cardigan. Done in the right yarn, it could, I think, be really something. I’d like this as the right yarn:
Then there are these:
And there’s this:
There are other things too - of course there are! There’s a shawl I promised Myria a shamefully long time ago, cottons for summer baby things and assorted, sundry wools for Dulaan things. It’s like trying to decide which of your children to leave at home! I’d really rather leave the formal clothes at home and bring more yarn!
This is the last post I can promise. If I have time between now and Wednesday morning, I might post again but it’s not likely. Thank you all for your bon voyages and best wishes - it means a lot :) I’ll see you all again in May!
Knit on!
No trackbacks yet.
good to know you have your packing priorities in order!
the thought of the ‘aibhlinn’ in those colors is just droolworthy- i’m starting the hood/cowl shown here

in some ambrosia ‘night sky’ for a friend and the yarn feels soo nice-
i’ll miss ‘yarnpath’ and can’t wait to hear travel tales when you return--stay happy-
Have a great trip Robbyn, and get lots of knitting done! We’ll all miss you on Thursday nights at Knitting Chatter. Heck, we’ll miss Knitting Chatter.
Love the colors for all your projects. Can’t wait to see pictures when you return.
Happy Travels to you and your Dad.
Sheri
Barb - The lace leaf hood was a close second and I’m not entirely sure it’s out of the running. Don’t you love Judy Gibson’s imagination?
Sheri - You can bet I’m going to miss you folks too. I wish I could take you all with me :) I’m trying to work something out about the Knitting Chatter so that maybe it can take place even if I’m not here. No promises, but you’ll know by next week if I can manage it :)
awww gonna miss you!
Robbyn...Hope you have a fantastic relaxing trip. Sorry I never made it back to chat last night. I am voting for the neck warmer from Knitty...very nice.
Nat - I’ll be back...eventually :)
Maureen - No worries - I know these things happen. Thanks for your good wishes. The only thing I wonder about is how much static the Aibhlinn will generate with my hair. Of course I probably won’t care - LOL!
Have a wonderful trip, enjoy WHATEVER project you bring… I am always of the mind “bring ‘em all, that way I won’t get bored...” Husband doesn’t always understand this, but we manage… Hee hee. And maybe I will remember to check into Knitting Chatter, too!
Enjoy!
Cat
Cat - Thanks :) That tends to be my approach - I mean how do I know that I won’t get two days out to sea and absolutely have to cast on for that funky scarf in the baby naugahyde bulky yarn - you know, the pea-green/yellow/puce colorway? A girl’s got to have her priorities!
Robbyn: if there;s not enough room in your cases for the Alpaca Clpud, I would be honoured to give it a home here .....
Have a great time, and we’ll look forward to your stories!
amaryllis
Amaryllis - LOL! You kmow, I hadn’t thought of it but my needles, patterns and some yarns are very well traveled indeed, having been to England, Portugal, Canada, Iceland, Greenland, Bermuda, the Caribbean and through the Panama Canal :)
