I’m packing!

Okay, now we’re down to brass tacks here - the really important stuff!  What do I want to work on during my trip and so what yarn comes with me?  The practical answer is whatever I need to start, make or finish those projects I have decided to work on.  The real answer is more likely to be whatever I can fit in my luggage :)

I have been looking at Aibhlinn over at Knitty for a long time and I think it’s time to do something about it :) I like the notion of a neck warmer that doesn’t have ends to keep track of and that doubles as a hood.  I love the picot cast-on and the diagonal ribbing and this is what I’d like to make it our of:

Ambrosia and Wings yarns

Front and center is Knitpicks’ Ambrosia in Mulled Wine, a sinfully luxurious baby alpaca/cashmere blend.  Behind it is Classic Elite Wings, an equally sinful luxury blend of alpaca, silk and wool.  I’d use the pale pink for the first and last inch or so of Aibhlinn and do the rest in the wine.  Ooooh!  Or I could do the picot cast on in the wine, switch to the pink for an inch and then back to the wine.  Things to ponder :)

I also ran into a crochet pattern a couple of days ago that sparked a thought (nah - it didn’t hurt!).  Take a look at this Climbing Shells Baby Blanket.  I am, as it happens, making this blanket, but the offset shells and columns keeping appearing in my head as a kimono-type cardigan.  Done in the right yarn, it could, I think, be really something.  I’d like this as the right yarn:

Wings yarn

...but I don’t think there’s be enough of it.  This is also Wings - on of my very favorite yarns.  You couldn’t tell, right?

Then there are these:

Alpaca Cloud in Iris

This is three hanks (1320 yards!) of Knitpicks’ Alpaca Cloud in Iris.  There’s enough here to make something really magnificent with if I can just get the slippery-sliding thing under control.  But I’m going to bring both bamboos and woods with me and I’m going to try.  The feel of this stuff is heavenly and I know I would love working with it if I could just control it a little better!

And there’s this:

Shimmer in Flower Garden

This is Knitpicks’ Shimmer in Flower Garden.  This is just pure, bright fun and if I can get my lace mojo going, there might be a nice, cheerful little scarf in here.

There are other things too - of course there are!  There’s a shawl I promised Myria a shamefully long time ago, cottons for summer baby things and assorted, sundry wools for Dulaan things.  It’s like trying to decide which of your children to leave at home!  I’d really rather leave the formal clothes at home and bring more yarn!

This is the last post I can promise.  If I have time between now and Wednesday morning, I might post again but it’s not likely.  Thank you all for your bon voyages and best wishes - it means a lot :) I’ll see you all again in May!

Knit on!

  3. Barb - The lace leaf hood was a close second and I’m not entirely sure it’s out of the running.  Don’t you love Judy Gibson’s imagination?

  4. Sheri - You can bet I’m going to miss you folks too.  I wish I could take you all with me :) I’m trying to work something out about the Knitting Chatter so that maybe it can take place even if I’m not here.  No promises, but you’ll know by next week if I can manage it :)

  8. Maureen - No worries - I know these things happen.  Thanks for your good wishes.  The only thing I wonder about is how much static the Aibhlinn will generate with my hair.  Of course I probably won’t care - LOL!

  9. Have a wonderful trip, enjoy WHATEVER project you bring… I am always of the mind “bring ‘em all, that way I won’t get bored...” Husband doesn’t always understand this, but we manage… Hee hee.  And maybe I will remember to check into Knitting Chatter, too!
    Enjoy!

  10. Cat - Thanks :) That tends to be my approach - I mean how do I know that I won’t get two days out to sea and absolutely have to cast on for that funky scarf in the baby naugahyde bulky yarn - you know, the pea-green/yellow/puce colorway?  A girl’s got to have her priorities!

  11. Robbyn: if there;s not enough room in your cases for the Alpaca Clpud, I would be honoured to give it a home here .....
Have a great time, and we’ll look forward to your stories!

  12. Amaryllis - LOL!  You kmow, I hadn’t thought of it but my needles, patterns and some yarns are very well traveled indeed, having been to England, Portugal, Canada, Iceland, Greenland, Bermuda, the Caribbean and through the Panama Canal :)
