Here, Kitty, Kitty…

I worked on the second sock all Tuesday and Tuesday evening so that the pair would be done and ready to bring to my father on Wednesday morning.  I even asked Myria not to let me get out of the house without taking a picture of them.

2 x 2 rib sport weight socks

They came out reasonably well and I believe dad will like them.  I asked him to let me know if there were any problems - you know, the standard stuff: a little too snug, perhaps a hair too long, heel too deep or not deep enough.  I can adjust for any small issues in the next pair.  He’ll never tell me though, he’d think it was being ungrateful.

Oh and, of course, I walked out Wednesday morning and left them on the coffee table :) So he got them yesterday instead :)

I have also been working on a scarf!

Entrelac cat lace scarf

The salmon color in the photograph isn’t quite accurate - there isn’t as much orange in the real thing.  Though there might be eventually - I’m not entirely thrilled with this pink and have been wondering if adding some yellow or orange (or both) with a smidge of green (to keep the color from screaming!) would give me a coppery color.  The yarn is otherwise quite nice - Peer Gynt DK - a little scratchier than I’d prefer but that may change after washing.

The lace patterns are via Jennifer Fleury’s Cat’s Face Lace Socks.  She tells me that the paw lace pattern is quite old.  However, the face lace is entirely her creation and she has graciously given me permission to use it for a free pattern (already in the works).  Very clever knitter, that girl, not to mention nice!

  3. Chris - well, i was into pink and purple for years but I seem to be moving away from it now.  two years ago I would have loved this color.  Now - not so much :)

I haven’t dyed a garment before though - just yarn.  So this could be an interesting experiment!

  4. Rob - The socks are pretty standard - just ribbing :) Woolease sport weight in an earth tones colorway.  i really wish lionbrand hadn’t discontinued the sport weight stuff :(

It would be great to see you at Chat if you find you can make it!

  6. oh, the socks really did turn out nicely- i’m sure that your dad is delighted-

i’m really not a ‘pink person’ but the delicacy of the kitty patterns and the ‘soft’ concept of pinkish tones seem to go together- opal wrote correctly when she called you the ‘queen of entrelac’- you have quite the vision with it-

    stay happy-

  7. Opal - You’re very sweet :) I’m terribly pleased with how the lace patterns worked out.

The sock is nothing like the nmasterpieces you turn out but I’m pleased with the work and dad is pleased with the colors and fit.  More than that you can’t ask :)

  8. Barb - I certainly do seem to do a lot of it, don’t I?  I have always liked projects that go together from small, manageable pieces rather than that are worked in one big block.  I suppose entrelac is something like that.

But queen?  No :) A dotty duchess perhaps…

  9. Darned bloglines… it’s not letting me know about updates at the moment. Your entrelac scarf is adorable! I love the little cat faces. Colour can be changed, as you well know, and you’re good at that, too.

Sorry I missed Chatters again. It was a little busy around here. Hopefully next time.

  10. Ev - We missed you at Chatters but I know you’ve got a full plate right now and I’m enjoying watching your progress!

My biggest internal debate with the scarf was whether to make it with light weight (lace or fingering) yarn or something heavier.  Since the patterns are so whimsical, I went with the heavier weight and I think it works well this way :)
