Happy Monday everyone! Don’t you hate perky people on Monday morning? Heheh… Would it help if I told you the cats woke us up a dozen times starting at 5:00 AM either wanting their breakfast (we’re thinking of re-naming them Porky and Petunia) or digging to China (apparently) in their litter box. It’s a wonder we didn’t have kitty cutlets for breakfast :)
I turned the heel on the second Dad sock and hope to get it finished today or tomorrow. This turning a heel thing - you know, it’s not so tough. It’s a series of steps - none of which are difficult - and in the end, you’ve put a 90 degree turn in your tube. I’m even beginning to think about more socks for me (greedy thing that I am) - socks with cables! I don’t see myself turning into a sock nut (Welcome to Channel 2 where it’s all socks, all the time! Today, our Feature presentation is “The Purple Hose of Cairo”), but I am tickled at finally being able to produce them. It’s like being in on a joke that I never got before. Cables, cables cables!!!
I got a package in the mail Friday from dear Barb-in East Texas. Just look at this:
Spiffy two-tone hearts!
Isn’t it gorgeous? It’s at least 6 feet long and as soft as a baby’s backside - and it feels even nicer than it looks. I’m am so looking forward to wearing it!
But that wasn’t all :) Barb, like me, is an avid coffee fan and she shared one of her favorites:
Sinfulness in a box!
I broke this open almost immediately because I couldn’t wait to try it! And it was wonderful - smooth and rich.
Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity, Barb. I feel blessed to know such a kind person :)
And they didn’t arrive any too soon either:
A little early for this !@#$%^&*, don’t you think?
We got 4 inches of snow Friday. Right, I know that’s not much - didn’t even slow the traffic down - but it was only the 12th of November. The first couple of snows should be a dusting and the ground shouldn’t be cold enough yet for there to be any kind of build-up. And it shouldn’t happen until after Thanksgiving (Robbyn’s Rules for Snow). This doesn’t bode well for the rest of the cold weather season. Oh well - guess we’ll live with it - kinda have too :)
I searched and searched last night, went over the links you nice folks shared with me, but I couldn’t settle on anything to do with the periwinkle mohair. Not that I couldn’t find anything nice, just that I couldn’t decide on anything. Most annoying - but I’m going back to the task today, determined that victory (and a beautiful, new blue-violet something) will be mine!
No trackbacks yet.
aww, i blush- glad you liked the things i sent-
early snow might mean those pudgy squirrels did know something- we’re not running the air conditioner today so that does mean that it’s considerably cooler here too-
i think i emailed you this link to consider for the mohair but i will resend it here so others might take a look at it too-

there are other patterns at that site that look wonderful- very ‘centuries past’ looks that are intriguing- oh goodie, now i’ve found something else to add to my ‘i want’ list-
take care and stay happy-

Yep - maybe the squirrels did know what was coming, clever little buggers. I did check the link - White Lies does have some really beautiful stuff!
Wow that does look soft as a babies backside! I am such a sucker for fibers that are soft and silky. I just finished one fingerless glove in Alpaca and I can’t rave enough about this fiber. Glad you got the coffee in time for the snow. I’d rather see a picture, like the one you posted, than actual, factual snow. Good luck on finding that elusive periwinkle mohair pattern out there:)

Alpaca is a wonderful fiber, isn’t it? Nice to work with and nice to wear. And warm :) Are you in an area that soesn’t get much snow or have you just not been hit yet?
The addition of garter at the ends is a lovely adaptation of the scarf pattern, to accomodate thinner yarn (I assume) Beautiful stuff. I’m almost done with mine.
Marcia - It’s really lovely; Barb did a beautiful job. I especially like the two tone pink treatment - very striking!
hey, I wish WE got snow! But no, we just get a great big freekin’ DROUGHT, instead! *grin* Life’s tough here in the summer of the sunburnt country, but ooh boy I’m looking forward to my holidays, and some nice walks along the ocean! Yay! Are you gonna make a snowman? Er… snowperson???
Monica - Drought is not the problem here. Making a snow person would be a nice test of my new hat and mittens - and my nice, new scarf! Good idea!
Just wandered onto your site and loved what I saw. Talking about alpaca yarn, I had the priviledge of visiting an alpaca ranch in South Carolina, outside of Greenville. To touch the real, unadulterated stuff was heavenly. And to actually hold a newborn albaca cria (baby) was the next best thing to wearing a gorgeous sweater. What a trip! Apparently the woman who owns the ranch combs the alpaca and will sell it raw. If anyone out there is interested in the real thing, let me know and I will see what I can drum up for you.
Candy in Houston
Hi Candy - nice to meet you. Oh goodness, playing with a cria would be so much fun - all legs and huge eyes. Alpaca are beautiful creatures!
Glad you enjoyed the blog :)
Saw this sock & thought of you
Rachel - Oh my goodness - those are some bobbly socks! LOL! I’d have to widen my jeans’ legs if I wanted to wear those :) I bet they’re fun to make though!
What a lovely scarf…And what a great friend. I love Gevalia coffee. Caffeine is the only addiction I have left. When the doctor mentions decaf, I start glaring. We just got a light dusting out of that storm.
Maureen - Coffee! I love my coffee. I swear I couldn’t start the day (and I’m a slow starter) without it. I couldn’t do decaf either - life’s too short for decaf :)
