I had been hoping that since the jacket was finally complete, I could get back to work on my cable socks and get the first one finished, at least! Well, that didn’t happen. I got half-way through the heel flap and other things popped up - don’t they always?
For one thing, dad wants to go to a nice restaurant on Saturday for lunch. I would like to wear my blue dress and new jacket and was pleased with the opportunity to do so...until I realized that my red leather winter purse wouldn’t go with that outfit very well. I was so bothered by this (what - am I turning into a girl girl at this late date?!?!) that I dreamed about a bag pattern to make involving some very well aged stash in a couple of colors.
Lacking a better idea, I started this:
I also have a bit of a contrasting color:
Now, let me direct your attention to the Yarn Harlot’s One Row Handspun Scarf. Scroll down a bit for the pattern, but don’t blink or you’ll miss it - it really is a one row pattern and it works out splendidly! I no sooner saw that than I was thinking about Citrine Curry and how would that work up?
No trackbacks yet.
ah, the citrine yarn- i just knew it was going to look beautiful and it really does-
there is nothing like a deadline (let’s just imagine a lovely saturday lunch) to inspire a fit of startitis- your bag should be quite nice with the blue dress and jacket- good luck on the finishing- i happen to really like chenille (despite the worms, inelasticity, and all known perversities) and enjoy finished items from it although they are notorious for having a rather short lifespan-
stay happy-
Barb - I’m really happy with the texture of the chenille fabric despite its somewhat intractable nature - thanks for the warning about it’s probable shorter lifespan though - I hadn’t realized that and so will probably keep this as an outfit bag :)
And can I just tell you, when I switched over last night from the chenille to the springy wool, my fingers pratically wept in gratitude!
thanks so much for sharing that you dream about yarn and patterns too. Of all the things I wrote, nay, disclosed, in my 10 knitterly things, that’s the one thing I felt made me feel and sound, well, like I was alone…
great knitting!
Nat - No, you’re certainly not alone! I frequently dream of numbers and stitches and I don’t think that’s unusual for many knitters :) And sometimes, there’s even a good idea in there!
Chenille that doesn’t worm?? Amazing. I love wearing chenille but my hands just can’t bear knitting with it, and if on top of that it didn’t last long… My socks have also stalled as I work on two different sweater patterns.
Rob - I was astounded at how awkward it was to work with this stuff. The texture of the fabric is sinful and sensational, but I can already see that this is an item to be used sparingly as it’s just not going to stand up very well.
I think starting sweaters is a fine thing :) Don’t worry about the sock; You’ll get back to it when it’s time!
