I finished the second Coronet over the weekend. I had been aiming for a smaller, more child-sized version, and this one is smaller, but not by very much. I did 15 repeats of the cable pattern and wound up picking up 80 stitches to work the body of the hat. Perhaps 14 or 13 repeats would have been better? It didn’t come out badly…
The cable and the top-knot are the very last of the Come Sail Away yarn. In fact, this is all that was left:
The cats are in full sun-seeking mode as the temperatures have been down in the 40s every morning for a week and we’re expecting our first hard frost almost any time now. I’m really hoping that will put paid to the allergy stuff which has been particularly annoying this past summer. It would be nice not to have a park a tissue on my upper lip to catch the constant drips and I could do with out the sinus pressure and headaches too :)
But it is a beautiful morning out there and I’m going to make a foray to the supermarket in a little while. I love the sunshine (Myria has hazarded the opinion that I’m solar-powered) and sunshine is sunshine, allergy-laden or not :)
Happy Monday!

WOW! That is beautiful!!!!! You are very creative. Great job and I can’t wait to see the other colors. LOL
Sheri in GA
oh, just look at you- sooo very very pretty (and i love the short haircut)- the jacket is lovely- what a great success it has been- *and* now you’ve conquered those ‘first sweater’ nerves too!
i like your tasselled tie closure- it seems to be appropriate for the ruffly romantic jacket- i’m sure your decsion to avoid the beads was wise, as i think those might not live happily after with washing-
stay happy-
Sheri - Thank you (she says, blushing profusely) - but the only creative thing I did was to lengthen the ruffles on the body and sleeves. Otherwise, I followed the pattern exactly as it was written - excellent pattern!
Barb - You’re always so kind, but I have to say I’m pretty pleased with it myself. I wore it to the market an hour ago and it looked great - even over my jeans :)
The haircut? Eh… I’m getting used to it :)
You and your jacket--FABULOUS!
Short hair! I didn’t recognize you! But I like it. :) Love the jacket - you’re right, it’s very Victorian & graceful. :)
Ryan - Oh goodness, thank you very much...babblebabblebabble....
Bron - It just occured to me that, as I favor pendants on long chains, this jacket will not only not be in the way, but actually enhance the look :)
The haircuts is easy to take care of (a good thing, since I have less than no talent at making my hair do what I want) and I can show off my earrings again. Well, when I’m wearing any :)
Gorgeous! Now I want to make both items. what weight yarn did you use for the hat, and for the lovely Circle Jacket?
I answered both my questions by scrolling back in the blog and clicking on the links you provided to the patterns. I might try Coronet in a sport weight, and see what size that produces. Did you find the sizing for the Circle Jacket to be pretty accurate? Hmm, I wonder what yarn that weight (4.5/in) I have in the stash…
It, and you, are gorgeous! Yeah!!!
I love the haircut! And I love the jacket! It looks really lovely on you. And kid’s heads are bigger than you might think. Ian (who is a month off 4), well, his head is 50 cms around the hairline. Does that make sense?
Rob - Yes, I found the sizing to be just about perfect - in fact everything about the pattern was well done :) I keep thinking for a wool blend, Woolease would fit the bill nicely, but for a pure wool, Knitpicks Wool of the Andes would be about perfect - both being the same light worsted weight of the Caron Simply Soft for which the pattern was written.
Christine - Thank you kindly. This project was great fun :)
Nat - You’re right! That works out to 19.68 inches and I know Ian’s still small yet - so this version of Coronet would fit him nicely, I think. Thanks - I’ll stop fretting about it now :)
Sounds like it is unanimous.... I love your new haircut too. Now, dig out all your dangly earrings :)
The jacket is stunning and a great color on you too. The two tone Coronet is adorable,,, I chuckled when I saw how much yarn was left.
just beautiful.
Maureen - I tell you, worrying about whether there’s going to be enough yarn is enough to make me start biting my nails again! But I love being able to use almost every bit of it :)
Hi Patti - Thanks very much :)
wow I can’t believe how much that dropped with washing ...
still love the pattern ...
still love the colour ...
still going to make one!
...umm one day ...
...eventually
...promise
...truly!
oh I forgot
all of the above comments [ except about the effect of the washing ]
also apply to the hat
Catsmum - I admit I purposefully didn’t do much more than a gentle squeezing when I took it out of the sink. I wanted the weight of the water in the garment to encourage it to stretch a bit and it worked very well indeed. Of course it took two days to dry and the very bottom shells are atill damp in the pictures :)
