Another parcel post…(cough)...

My order came!  My order came!

Isn’t it silly, a great, middle-aged lump like me, jumping up and down like a kid because some yarn arrived?  Heheh…  One takes one’s pleasures where one can :)

Sensational Knitted Socks

In best Daffy Duck fashion: Mine! Mine-mine-mine-mine-mine-mine-mine!!!!!

This has hardly been out of my hands since it arrived - I have been reading it obsessively and plotting :)  I love the clarity of the patterns and especially the wealth of stitch patterns that accompany the socks.  I’m preaching to the choir, I’m sure, but this is a must have for a sock knitter and I expect I’ll be looking to start a pair fairly soon :)

Knitpicks Fingering weight - Bare

This is the yarn for the Moonlight Sonata Shawl and oh, what a wonderful, warm scent of lanolin wafted out of the bag when I opened this up!  I’m still fooling around with color ideas, but I’ve got plenty of yarn to experiment with.  The shawl, as written, calls for a bit over 650 yards of fingering weight yarn.  I will be enlarging it somewhat and I wanted enough yarn to play with so I could do gauge and color swatches with impunity.  So I ordered 1760 yards :)  Think that’ll be enough?  I figure even if I only use half of it for this shawl, I’ll have the rest for another project.

Knitpicks CotLin DK weight yarn

I’ve been wanting to try the CotLin (DK weight) since I first saw it and I have to tell you this Moroccan Red is the most mouth-watering shade I’ve ever seen.  It’s a 70% cotton/30% linen blend and I was afraid it might be a little stiff - you know, hard on the fingers?  But it’s not - it’s really quite nice to work with and works up absolutely beautifully :)

Ev - you know that bag I was trying to get going with Saturday evening?  It was apparently waiting for this yarn to arrive :)

Carillon Bag

That’s the size 6 Options needle in there which was also part of the order, along with size 8s.  I love these needles - especially the slick finish and the sharp points.  They make working with a non-elastic fiber a breeze.  I wouldn’t trade in my Addis for anything and I use them all the time too - but I probably won’t be adding any more of them to my collection :)

I have gotten in line for Ravelry and am waiting, more or less patiently for my invite.  Those who have gotten into the playground already seem to be having a wonderful time so I’m looking forward to seeing what this is all about.  At least most of the time I’m excited about it.  Once in a while the snowballing nature of the thing looks a little intimidating.  I guess we’ll see!

Okay - back to dreaming about Moonlight colors and on with the bag!

  1. I’m so glad you got the SKS book! You’ll find it invaluable with all the different stitches and different types of heels. I’m looking forward to purchasing the 2nd book.

I adore that red CotLin. I’m thinking that would make a really nice garment for my climate. Unfortunately, I’m totally uninspired when it comes to garments. Shawls on the other hand…

Can’t wait to see how your Moonlight Sonata knits up!

  2. There isn’t anything quite like getting yarn in the mail. My kids can’t understand my excitement but then they don’t know the blahness of most mail being advertisements and bills. It is wonderful there are still ways to feel like a kid again.
I like the knitpicks needles, too. The circulars are so wonderfully flexible.

  3. That book is just a must have.  I have both and really, really enjoy them.  The yarns are beautiful, especially the Red Cotlin - wow!!

  4. Opal - I’m very, very pleased with the book and my brain is humming with possibilities :)

I’m liking the CotLin a lot and I think you’re right - it would make a nice, breathable and comfortable garment for your Hawaiian location.  Have you thought about maybe a tank or a T, rather than a full-fledged sweater?  Neither would take very long and should be pretty simple to do.

  5. Lydia - Oh I’m so glad to know I’m not the only one :)  I nearly lit candles and blew up balloons when I saw the box in the doorway on Monday :)

You’re right about the nice, soft cables - something the Addis don’t have (though they’re not bad) - makes knitting with these needles very comfortable!

  6. Chris - Is that a color or what?  Heheh…  I’m trying to restrain myself from ordering more.  I really should have a project in mind if I’m going to do that - but I don’t.  I just want enough of that color to roll around in!

  7. Just reading your post, I’m all excited for you! What a wonderful package! I agree, that red is gorgeous. And, the bag is looking great! Sometimes, a project knows what it needs to be, even if we don’t.

I’ll have to look into that book… dang, and I’m at the LYS tonight to teach a class. You enabler, you!! ;)

  9. I’m making a sweater with the CotLin in Moroccan Red. I love it too, and it’s very nice to work with. The color is a cool red, not as orange as your blog pix appear on my screen, but maybe that’s just me.

I like the KP Options needles better than Addis. So smooth, so pointy, such flexible cables, and affordable too.

Your bag-to-be is pretty. I must go back in time to see if you’ve made other posts about that stitch pattern.

  10. SFBP - The color is definitely deeper than it appears in the photos - but to me it does have some orange in it :)  Regardless, it’s a great yarn and I’m glad I decided to try it!
