The weekend seemed to be primarily sock oriented :) First, there were these, children’s socks:

Multi-color tootsies
This is another pattern from Woolworks and you can find it here. It is actually a very basic pattern which uses worsted weight yarn and size 6 (US) needles. It works up very quickly - even a pokey knitter like me can turn out one a day :)
This is the first time I’ve ever played with using more than one color for a sock and I must say it wasn’t nearly as annoying as I thought it would be. And it worked out nicely, I think. There will definitely be more of these! Oh yeah, that little bow on the cuff? That’s just a double length of yarn threaded through both socks and back (with the help of a tapestry needle) and then tied in a bow to keep the pair together in transit.
Then there’s this:

Peppermint Sock
There’s only another inch or so to go on this. I tried it on last night and it fit beautifully (yay!) and I can’t wait to get it finished so I can start on the mate. I hope these wear well because they are already my favorite socks and I’m going to wear them to death :)
The cats were unusually companionable this morning - perhaps in honor of the day?

Cats in the window
Of course as soon as they spied the camera, they decided they had business elsewhere :)
We have gotten our cable back for the time being and we watched Food Network’s “Iron Chef America” last night. What an odd show - though it can’t hold a candle to the original Japanese production. Chocolate and coconut as entrée ingredients? Well, maybe….but I think our Sunday dinner of roast pork, fresh asparagus (often referred to in our house as “asper-grass”) and bow-tie pasta beats anything the chefs prepared. Myria’s cooking just gets better and better :) I do enjoy Alton Brown though; he’s such an amiable geek. His own show, “Good Eats” is all about the chemistry and physics of cooking and is very entertaining. I’ve also learned some good techniques from him.
I hope you all had great and wonderful weekends and that your upcoming week is pleasant.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
No trackbacks yet.
Great socks! If I ever finish my first pair, my second pair will be using a thicker yarn so they go faster. We like Alton Brown, too. He was doing chocolate/cocoa/fudge on Saturday. MMmmm.
Laura - I know - the chocolate/fudge thing nearly drove us to the supermarket for frenzied buying. But we managed to control ourselves :)
Of course, we’re still not sure that’s a good thing. It is chocolate after all, you know…
i know my family would both benefit from and appreciate my paying attention to some of the ideas from the food shows- i am deinitely a ‘if it’s monday it must be meatloaf’ cook and really stuck in a cooking rut- the food presentation is always so great on those shows too-
your lone sock reminded me of my mil- several years before she died, she had a leg amputated and i have to admit that making one sock for her was such fun- never had to worry about second sock syndrome and she loved showing off a handmade sock-
happy valentine’s day to you, myria, goldie, and jade- stay happy-
Barb - How cool - not having to make two socks :) Of course, I’m not willing to give up the other leg just yet! LOL!
And what’s wrong with meatloaf? One of my very favorites - once I got away from my mother’s (god rest her) which was a cross between marsh gas and a hockey puck….
We are BIG Alton Brown fans! Even I, the worst cook in the world, have learned things from him like how to really brown meat, not just steam the crap out of it.
Happy Valentine’s, punkin’! I hope you and your hon have a great one!
For us, it’s a mellow night of watching the first half of the Westminster dog show, but we consider that a night well spent.
Ryan - Heheh - he’s fun, isn’t he? And what the hell, learning can be a tasty process.
We’re watching Aladdin tonight and pretending not to be grownups :) Happy Valentine’s to both of you too - may the best breed win!
