Pardon me while I rant…
Dear Supermarket Cashier -
You know, I thought I’d seen the ultimate in snottiness when I was in highschool but I swear, those girls had nothing on you! What are you - 45? 46? And you’ve still got something to prove?
I watched how you handled the lady in front of me at the market the other day. You remember, the little Oriental woman with the two children? The one who’s English wasn’t so hot? You know, the one you told - in the most arrogant, insufferable and loud tone of voice - that her bank card wouldn’t work because she obviously didn’t have enough money in her account? Right, the one who was so humiliated…
And then you rang up my order and my bank card wouldn’t work either. But of course because I’m white and speak English fluently (and maybe because I’m bigger than you), it couldn’t possibly have been a problem with my account and so further investigation was required. Well, what do you know? The store’s debit/bank connection was down!
I’d also like to thank you for putting the strawberries in with the honeydew melon. How did you know I was going to mash the berries? That certainly saved me a lot of work although I’m not sure how you were trying to help by putting the drain cleaner in with the eggs. No doubt it will come to me in time…
Mad in Massachusetts
I got my Dulaan stuff mailed earlier this week. The final tally was as follows:
Children’s hats…
Thank you all for your thoughts and opinions of the shawl-border colors - I appreciate the input. More than that, I pretty much agree with the gist of it. Some interesting alternatives were suggested though it will surprise none of you I’m sure, to know that I haven’t decided on anything yet :)
On Friday - a visit from an old friend…
No trackbacks yet.
i think the cashier at your store must have cousins all over east texas- the concept of ‘serving the public’ doesn’t come across too loud and clear at places here either- i also get just a tad annoyed at those who chew gum loudly, blow bubbles, and pick at their faces while handling my groceries-
mind you, there are a majority who are delightful people whom i love to encounter, but those few who have either attitude or ignorance just give me fits- people who own or operate places would probably be amazed at what some of their employees do to display bigotry or condecension- i am too ‘minnie mouse’ to point it out, but i cheer for those who will speak up-
ooh, lots and lots of dulaan pretties- love your arrangements- i think lots of cold bodies will appreciate your pretty work-
stay happy-
unbelievable cashier! i have stronger language running in my head, but i think i’ll refrain as it might be inappropriate to this blog.
what a great lot of loot you have going to dulaan. i admire your charitable proclivity!
I boycotted our local pharmacy/ chemist for this very reason. Scripts worth hundreds of dollars over the course of our children’s growing up forfeited. I’m fraid I vote with my feet every time. For everything…
I forgot to say what great work you have been doingfor Dulaan - and what pretty colours, no doubt at least partly due to yor talents with the dye pot! Well done - your efforts are to be congratulated! :)
Barb - Well, I know this isn’t really an appropriate venue for venting about such obnoxious behavior, but I was so angry I couldn’t stop myself.
And you’re right - some “service” type folk are delightful people. But this one I just wanted to step on like she was a bug…
Opal - Believe me, as I stood there watching the encounter, my mind was full of bad words :) I don’t think there are any good words to describe such behavior!
Nat - You’re right, of course. Voting with your feet is the only thing to do. It’s not a market I frequent but it happened to be convenient at the time. That won’t be happening again.
Thanks about the Dulaan stuff. Actually, quite a bit of it is my own dyed stuff - which is part of the fun and makes me feel I’ve contributed a little more than just the knitting :)
Robbyn, I am in awe of the stuff you sent to Dulaan, this is my first year to send off charity knitting and I was quite pleased with my measely 6 items. Next year I will get more done. I shipped mine off last week.
Super contribution to Dulaan! I regret not having kept up with my hats to give to others—I definitely have to start again.
Wendy - Don’t make yourself feel bad by comparing amounts. As I don’t work, I have a great deal more free time than most. Besides, when I’m in the throes of a new, largish project, nothing else exists in the world - which peeves the cats, of course, and tends to make me forget all about charity work for a while :)
Rob - And I remember some of the breath-taking color in the hats you have done in the past. I have no doubt that people would be lining up for one of your sensationally hued chapeaus!
What a lovely donation. You really got a nice assortment of things.I just love the baby socks.
Maureen - Thanks :) The sock pattern is terrific! It’s this one, North Country Baby Socks. The originals were made in cotton, roughly worsted weight, but wool and alpaca work just fine too :)
