A Little of This, a Little of That…

I finally got around to starting those mittens that the butternut Wings yarn kept whining that it wanted to be :)

Mitten

One down, one to go…

I had fully intended to work plum colored diamonds around the mitten so that it would match the hat - except in reverse.  But I chickened out :)  The much smaller diameter of the mitten made me nervous about being able to keep the tension loose.  Maybe I can embroider something, duplicate stitch, is it?  I just have to learn how to do that, but how tough can that be?

I also picked up Zoë Mellor’s 50 Baby Bootees to Knit at the library yesterday morning.  Such a cute book!  Seems, maybe, they could use a few little woolen “shoes” for the not-yet-walking set over there in Mongolia?  I thought I’d give them a try and see what I could do.

Book

Book and bootee

And I started one last night.

Bootee

Bobbled bootee

I had hoped to have more done than that by today but you know?  It’s been that kind of week.  I have been rendered slothful by the same low-grade virus that was plaguing Myria last week and that plus the disaster in the south have combined to make my mood both snarky and lugubrious.  Ugh…

And then there’s the gasoline prices…

It has been brought to my attention the the Seaweed and Shells scarf has hit the big time in the Threadbears newsletter.  Gosh,  I’d like to thank all the little people…

Have a great and safe weekend and may next week be better and more hopeful than this!

  2. Mittens and booties…my two favorite things to knit. I just made a little pair of crocheted booties that still need felting. I always knew you would be famous action-smiley-033.gif width=20 height=30

  3. Booties look great, so far!  Every little bit you knit is a great amount.

  5. Maureen - Ooh, felted booties!  You’ll post pictures, right?  I bet they’re cuter than kittens :)

  6. Laurie - ROFL!  You crack me up :)  Nah - they’re a brother and sister comedy act that occasionally make questionable use of a sheep and a bottle of spring-water :)

  7. Congratulations! Since you are now big time I suppose your late night snacks will henceforth consist of caviar and champagne? Where’s the fun in that?  LOL
The mitt and the shoe both look so cute and cozy.

  8. Great bootees! Someday I’d like to make the little harlequins curly point ones, with bells even.

  9. Aarlene -

Well, I doubt my midnight snacks would change much.  I happen to like caviar but I don’t care for champagne - agree with my grandfather who used to say it tasted like spoiled apple juice!

I’m glad you’re still here too, seriously :)

  10. Toni - I loved the ones with bells too - but I keep thinking they could be a serious annoyance - jingle, jingle, jingle - as baby wiggles his feet just because he can :)  Maybe a bobble or a little pom-pom instead.

  11. bobbled baby booties, bobbled baby booties, ... try saying that really fast 10 times!

they’re cute- and now i’ve read your comments and want to try felting some little footies for the dulaan thing- our babies have outgrown the bootie stage- sigh or cheer depending on what time of day it is and what the wee demons are getting into!

i’m proud of your recognition by so many now- those who ‘knew you when…’ will ride upon your coat-tails into fame (or perhaps infamy if that whole ‘sheep and spring water’ thing gets out!)

    stay happy-

  12. Barb - Oh GAWD - now you’ve got me muttering “bobbled baby booteed” over and over.  I love tongur twisters as there is the strong possibility for hilarious chaos :)

You’re too kind - and so is everybody else.  It’s just a scarf.  It’s nice that lots of people like it, but it’s still just a scarf :)

  13. “Snarky and lugubrious?” The perfect description.

(P.S.  We’re having scones this weekend.  Yep, Robbyn scones.  What can I say? Every time you mention them…)

  14. Ryan - Ahh well, it was a weird week all around.  Hope you have a wonderful little mini-vacation :)

Some day, try the scones this way - Leave out the sugar.  Add a cup of good, shredded cheddar cheese and replace 2 tsp of the cream with Worcestershire sauce.  Not sweet, but very yummy :)

  17. Oooh, what do you think of that book?  Is it worth buying?

  18. Laura - I’m not sure yet, but for me, probably not.  The little boots and shoes are really <really cute and they work up pretty durned quickly.  But I’m not convinced they’d stay on very well and I think I’d prefer a more traditional type of pattern.

    But they are seriously cute!
