I have been wanting a wool shawl for a while now. Not a dressy shawl, but a utilitarian, everyday kind of shawl that would be warm and comfortable. A few weeks ago I lucked into more Waterspun - 12 hanks of deep pink. While this isn’t a shade I would normally pick, the other available color was a cross between cow pie and olive drab. Not fun.
In perusing the stash, I also realized that I have a few complimentary colors that might make interesting, sporadic additions to the shawl.

Yarn combinations
Mixed in, from top to bottom:
1. Pale pink, sport-weight boucle - acrylic
2. Cerise acrylic/mohair blend
3. Purple, aqua and magenta variegated mohair
I’d like three or four more yarns to mix into this - maybe some purples and blues as well as various pinks. Am I right in thinking that #1 is just too light?
In other news, Goldie and Jade haven’t exactly reached détente, but things are looking hopeful. This morning, both of them sat in the kitchen with us (and about as far away from each other as they could get) without any of that nasty cursing and fighting. Interestingly, Goldie does seem to want to be friends but any overture he makes still meets with hissing and thwacking. He spends a lot of time in doorways, on the lookout.

Thar she blows!
Jade wanders between the kitchen and the living room with occasional forays into the bathroom. Just this evening, she decided that shredding my leather desk chair might be a good summer project. I’m trying to persuade her that knitting might be a more healthy pursuit, because it wouldn’t end up with her getting her little neck wrung.

Don’t you think my claws would be better suited to crochet?
She’s thinking about it :)
No trackbacks yet.
I wouldn’t say the first is *too* light - just very noticeable. I suspect that’s *not* the look you’re aiming for, however.
Keeping my fingers crossed for the cats! Looks promising, just hang in there. And yes - McGee was a very jealous cat - quite unusual. The name “McGee” came from the John D. MacDonald “Travis McGee” books - I devoured the series one summer & the hero stuck with me. Hehehehe
You’re right; it’s not the “look” I’m going for - so I’ll keep looking around :) I know of at least two other yarns I’d like to include in this - the more the merrier :)
You know, I’ve tried the Travis McGee books a couple of times now and gotten nowhere with them. Might be time to try them again, eh?
I agree that #1 doesn’t look quite right. I love #3 though!
Thanks Natalie - I think #3 is my favorite too so far - but I also want a bit of variety :)
I tend to discourage Pushkin from going into the bathroom. After pooing in the bath, she tries to drown herself in the toilet.
Pooping in the bathtub?!?!? I ‘ve heard of cats doing this, but (thank goodness) have never had one that did. Have you ever considered keeping about an inch of water in the bottom of the tub, you know, just as a surprise for the next time Pushkin tries to jump in there?
Fluffy was, however, fascinated with the toilet - always came running when it was flushed to watch the water swirl down and often used it as a drinking fountain :)
Congrats on the cat improvement! I had a big celebration last night when both the dogs sat on the SAME sofa without killing each other. And about nine years ago, I had to start the habit of closing the toilet lid because a certain little kitten liked to jump up on the rim, and then couldn’t stop her forward momentum. Haha! That was always a treat to hear a SPLASH! and then have a soaking wet kitten run out of the bathroom. And yes, cat claws are perfect as crochet hooks.
Ahh - glad to hear that your canines are making progress. I LOVED the picture of your new adoptee - what a sweet face she has!
ROFL at the kitty swimming pool. Animals are so much fun, aren’t they?
