Happy Monday after Thanksgiving! Hope you all had a wonderful holiday :)
It was quiet here, but pleasant. On Thursday, dad and I went to a local restaurant for dinner (we both had turkey). I wound up bringing most of it home as the servings were more than generous. On Friday, Myria and I had our own little celebration with Myria’s awesome rosemary/garlic chicken - one of our favorites and something we hadn’t had in quite a while :) It’s a very simple preparation - all you need is a roasting chicken (5.5 - 7 lbs), some fresh rosemary and some garlic cloves.
We get the rosemary in a little packet in the produce section of the supermarket, the garlic too for that matter :) How much garlic is entirely up to you but we usually use two whole bulbs.
Peel the garlic cloves and rinse the rosemary and the chicken in fresh, cold water. Now, as gently as you can, push the rosemary sprigs and the garlic cloves under the chicken skin. Do this all over the bird until all your herbs are used up.
Place the chicken in a 5 quart crock pot (see, it does get used for something besides dyeing once in a while!) and set on low for a couple of hours. Move the setting to high for the next 5 - 6 hours and - just as if you were cooking this in the oven - the chicken is done when the little timer pops up :) This is incredibly yummy and you won’t believe how good your kitchen will smell :)
We had rice and asparagus with this and it was an awesome feast! In fact (pardon me while I drool), we have leftovers in the fridge that I will probably raid this afternoon!
I have finished the entrelac shawl, by dint of exclusive work Saturday and Sunday - but I am having a difficult time writing the pattern. Rest assured I will manage it, but it’s rather slow going at the moment. Entrelac isn’t difficult to do, but it’s a bloody bear to explain :)
The pattern’s coming - I promise :)
No trackbacks yet.
Yay for the finished shawl. Believe me, I know how ya feel on the pattern writing. It is so much easier to knit it than to write it!
I missed having chatters this weekend, but I hope you enjoyed your break from it. I was all excited to go, until I remembered we were off this week lol. Hopefully I will be able to come this week! Hugs Robbyn!
I can’t wait to see the shawl. These days I am thinking more about a nice shawl to wrap up in, and as pretty as lace is I would prefer something like entrelac or other “solid” knitting for these colder days.
PS. Yes the Slytherin blanket is all for me ;)
i am firmly convinced that thanksgiving should come earlier or christmas later!! either that, or i must admit to old age and senility that makes every holiday very stressful now- ah, what happened to youthful (or even middle-aged) enthusiasm? being of a most ‘camille-like nature’ lately surely hasn’t gotten me in the spirit for thinking about all i need to make for christmas- i might just hang gift certificates on the christmas twig and call it done this year!
one of the problems with writing up a pattern seems to be the fact that i often include such exacting instructions as ‘you know what i mean’ or ‘until it looks right’- this is why i so appreciate those like you who can actually produce clarity in words and ‘real’ numbers in directions-
sounds like you had a very tasty celebration week- i love the scent of rosemary and enjoy smelling it more than i do tasting it- ummm!
stay happy-
Lisa - Thanks :) I know that you, more than most, understand the dificulties involved in translating a pattern from what you actually do to words and pictures (or charts).
Omly - Please pardon me if I say I think this is a nice shawl - it’s pretty much what I was aiming at, so I’m happy with it. It might be a little big for your petite frame - but sizing it down should be pretty simple.
On the other hand, perhaps something big and warm is just what you’re looking for? I’ll measure it carefully and let you know how it works out as I made it and you can decide from there :)
Barb - Personally, I don’t think there’s a thing wrong with gift certificated - or even checks :) Especially for someone in a Camille-like condition :)
Frankly, I’d turn over the Christmas festivities to someone else this year - or hire it done. Even if it isn’t exactly what you’d do yourself, it will still be Christmas!
awww that just sounds very yummy, that chicken! And the knitting and needles posed nicely together, now didn’t they?
Nat - Myria’s chicken is to die for :)
The photograph just happened as the needles naturally lean up against my knitting basket - which is sometimes piles quite high :)
